Teki Latex feat. the genevan heathen - go go go (audioporno rmx)

Sometimes there is no way to make a song harder, better, faster or
stronger by remixing it. You could only fail by trying then. In such
situations there is just one thing a remixer/producer can do: Create
something different. That's what Mel from Audioporno did when he
reworked "Go Go Go" by Teki Latex feat. The Genevan Heathen and gave
it a complete new taste - an oriental taste.

Lykke Li - I'm good, I'm gone (Black Kids Rmx)

After Supermarkt amazed me with his Skibunny-Shred-mix, here is a remix I really like. Its from the Black Kids - and they did such a good job on swedish girl Lykke Li. More remixes coming from Fred Falke and Metronomy. Buy the single when it drops in May.

Daft Punk - Technologic (MALENTE Re-Edit)

Malente Re-Edits. The first post is always the hardest. I guess that's why it took me half a year to do what I do right now. Well the third reason (after no. 2: my lazyness) was that I did not just want to post some new tunes, but something special. So here is something special and from now on I'll try to make it something special every week. I do a lot of Re-Edits for my DJ-sets so I came across the idea that this might be exactly that special giveaway I am searching for. From me to you.

Why Re-Edits? Most of the times I re-edit stuff because the arrangement of the original is too long, too short, has got a part in it that rocks/sucks or the original is played by everyone so I need an exclusive version. In some cases the track is brand new in others it's a classic that I feel needs an update. In every case I love and respect the original track. Otherwise I wouldn't spend time on this. In other words: The original is perfect already, but just not for me playing it out in the club. If you like the edits I did you should buy the vinyl of these releases. In the following posts I'll write something about the artist or tune or some totally unrelated stuff, but as kind of an introduction to the whole "Malente Re-Edits"-thing I wouldn't this time. That's why I chose something you know everything about already (apart from that this Malente Re-Edit is from 2006)

LAUREL CANYON - a warm mix of groovy 70's softrock/M.O.R. by dj supermarkt/mellow mafia

You have to be really strong for this one: for some time now i dig deeper and deeper into the 70's world of softrock/M.O.R., the music that i connect to california radio stations, that you listened to in the early seventies while driving desert highways on the westcoast of the USA with some big car in a very slow tempo. For me this contains no irony at all, this is BIG MUSIC, with big compositions, big arrangements and over all bands with (extremly) BIG EGOS.
I guess I am not alone with this hidden passion, as recently lots of modern bands are influenced by softrock (some without admitting...): a.o. Gonzales, Midlake, Phoenix, Zoot Woman, Air, Josh Rouse, Republic of Loose, Sebastian Tellier, Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve, Black Ghosts, Tele or The Autumn Defense discovered this recognizable "warm" sound for themselves. Of course we all know that softrock went horribly wrong ("hell freezes over") in the late seventies and had to be killed by PUNK (thank god). But as with every movement, there were lots of unusual, new ideas, unforgettable great songs and - here especially - great stories (i recommend the book: HOTEL CALIFORNIA by Barney Hoskyns about "singer/songwriter and cocaine cowboys in the laurel canyon"). For me some of the greatest music ever made came out of this....
So I "simply" compiled my favorite 19 tracks for this "starters"-set and included lots of radio-jingles, speech, commercials to make it sound like a real California-radio show from the 70's. It includes some big names and also some really obscure guys, that were not successful back then (and now). Musically the songs range from classic singer/songwriters to megalomania-bands to the disco-influenced mid seventies singer/bands. This is not a folk-mix, all songs are groovy, some of them are played by the greatest studio-musicans ever (The Section). Besides, Browning Bryant's backing band were the original, legendary funk-band The METERS. Rupert Holmes once said in an interview that this is the last period in music history, where a "not so attractive" person could become a successful star (remember it was way before MTV). Oh, and this mix features one of my all time favorite lyric-lines: "Midnight at the Oasis, sing your camel to bed"! This is a very special trip. Dare to take it... and OPEN UP!

JAPE - I Was A Man (Phones Remix)

It seems that Indie-JAPE loves new versions of his songs. After his EP "Jape Is Grape" (7 Tracks, 3 are remixes by d.i.m, Tronik Youth and Bobmo), here is the brandnew, ruff-electro Phones Remix of "I Was A Man", first released as home demo in 2007. You can listen to the original on his myspace.

Gameboy/Gamegirl - Sweaty Wet (Shir Khan Rmx)

I just saw that my remix for Gameboy/Gamegirl was already released. Its on Beatport and I-Tunes. The sad story about it - I sent the label 2 versions and they were supposed to master the second version, but they mastered the wrong version. Another sad thing is that my name is written wrong - so thats double dose. However - i am gonna get the right version mastered and gonna post that here. Before that you should try to grab this version here from Beatport.
We just booked Gameboy/Gamegirl together with African Boy on the 12th of July to Picknick. Yeeha!

MODERNAIRE - faites tes jeux (Hemme Fatale rmx)

Modernaire is an experimental pop trio from Manchester (seems that one of them is really shy...). This remix of their single "Faites tes jeux" was produced by (another trio) Hemme Fatale from Cardiff. This is weird but funky and creeped into my ears really deep. Reminds me of the dark pop-charms of Lykke Li (not only because of the nice female vocals). Great stuff!

Shir Khans radioshow now available as Stream!

Finally it happened: From now, my radioshow on Fritz (each tuesday from 20.00-22.00) will be available as a stream. Each show will be stored for 1 week. Just click on my pic and you can already hear the show. Only problem - due to trouble with gema and all that crap it is not possible to hear the show from the beginning. it always starts from a different position which means that you will jump into the show just if you turned on the radio too late. blame it on the gema and germanys stupid copyright law! a download is not possible at the moment. keep trying it and spread it....i have cool guests in the next weeks and months such as BUSY P, MUNK, MALENTE, JOYCE MUNIZ, BABY G....if you just turn in now you might here the feature with OLIVER $. word.

Marvin Suggs - Simon Says Hans

Played for the very first time in poland yesterday and - yes - god save the vinyl - people were playing vinyl (though i came only with cds). I couldnt believe my eyes. I thought especially in poland people would play cds. well - i found out that there is not many good recordstores in the whole of poland - maybe 2 in warsaw. but the djs i played with (zambo) are mainly shopping in a store in berlin: Oye Records. Funnily enough thats also my favourite recordstore in berlin. Its just around the corner and its always good selected stuff. One of the owners of oye records is actually a very talented dj. He goes by the name of Delfonic and has been making some ed bangerlike edits under his moniker of marvin suggs. I have been playing his sabotage-edit of the beasties for a bit of time. So i think its well about time to share one of his edits with with you. Ok - jokers of the scene also used pharaoe monch, but who cares. you can either hate it or love it, but maybe check out this version here.

BUMBLEBEEZ - Rio (Herve Remix)

This is a banger. Bumblebeez and Herve together can't be bad. And the best thing is: the track is called "Rio", like our favourite club in Berlin (ok, it WAS our favourite club. Rest in peace Rio. Or do you return?). If you are not a DJ or you just don't like remixes, than check out the very nice Bumblebeez album "Prince Umberto & the sister of ill" on Modular records. BABY CHARLES - i bet that you look good on the dancefloor (Arctic Monkeys coverversion)

Thios is a really raw FUNK-version of the Arctic Monkeys single, played by a 8-piece band. It's a really nice track to drop after deejaying too much Nu-Rave-songs. It's by Brighton's Funk-band Baby Charles. they have an album out just now.
