Malente's PalmsOut Summer Mix

This time it's not "Get on the floor and shake your body", it's "Get your barbe going and have some beers". When PalmsOut asked me for a special summer mix I instantly thought of the summer mixtapes I did when school holidays were coming up and a trip to greece or spain was planned with some friends.

With the PalmsOut mix I wanted to catch the spirit of these old tapes I recorded. Tapes containing music of all genres, cause all of your buddys have a slightly different taste in music. Tapes that give you a good time with beautiful, exciting and sometimes shocking music. Tapes that leave you be at one time and demand your attention at the other. Tapes like friends. Like those tapes we listened to over and over again while sitting at our tents or on the beach and having some beers.

In this blog thing we are in everything revolves around the dancefloor, the hype, the noise. I want to give you people what you missed, maybe without even knowing it: Music

like I said elesewhere: Music Forever

Malente - Music Forver

This summer is gonna be hot: "Music Forever" coming with Remixes by Solo, Dada Life, Freaks, Act Yo Age, The Urchins and too good for B-side track "Feel It". So good by that way, that Alex Gopher after receiving the promo did an Edit of this track...

Listen to some of that now in space and watch the video directed by Leo Von Werhahn of Fourlights. Good. Good.Good.... yes. Advertising myself. 90% of my job. 100% awesome. I love it (as much as McDonalds).

early support by Etienne De Crecy, Lee Mortimer, Kissy Sellout, Don Diabolo, Mikix The Cat, Shir Khan, Midfield General, Groove Armada, Dub Frequency, Acidkids, Sharam Jey, Stereo Mcs, Dave Spoon, Shinichi Osawa, Peter Kruder, Jason Nevins, Aston Shuffle, Maral Salmassi, Nick Catchdubs, Erick Morillo, Aquasky, Mason, Ursula 1000, Azzido Da Bass +++

... oh and DJ Supermarkt loves it too ... and Axwell !? ;)

Malente feat. Knixx - Rock Me Amadeus

Yes I haven't being posting candy bars for weeks. But know this: it wasn't me being lazy. My stupid Macbook died on me.

NIGHTMARE

... as my backup is in Germany and I'm still touring Australia. What makes it even worse is that I backed up approximately 3 month ago. I've lost a fair bit of work, music, layouts, edits and many contacts.

But there are good things in life. For example the cover of Falco's "Rock Me Amadeus" I did with Knixx for "Rewind2" the buffet libre DJ's coverproject. I shoudl have named it "Sambadeus"

Malente feat. Knixx - Rock Me Amadeus
(yousendit)

You read all about the "Rewind2" thing anyway so I won't bore you with details. Better you read everything about Falco. So much for now. I hate Internet Cafes!!

Me My Head - White Lights (Shadow Dancer Remix / Malente Re-Edit)

This is how Digitalism's fridge looks like when they're playing the big festivals. Thanks for showing us Isi. But why haven't I told you earlier? Well, I was busy playing. On my little 5 week Australia tour the two summadayze festivals in Melbourne and especially the one in Perth (where these fotos are from) have been the highlight so far.
Incredible lineup. I played alongside Boys Noize, Switch, Digitalism (live), Busy P and DJ Mehdi, who's showing me how to use the mixer ;) on the photo belowIt was a beautiful day with great music, great people and it was a lot of fun to meet and hang with these guys. The atmosphere in the Hot Barbecue tent (pay attention to the sausage above the stage) was phenomenal.
Especially when Digitalism performed and Busy P & Mehdi played to finish the thing off. For the last 30 minutes all the artists where dancing on stage having a good time. I didn't know that Switch was such an awesome dancer... impressing. This is how fetsivals should be.
Even if you haven't read the interview with him on Discodust yet: I know you guys know that Boys Noize Alex is not only a nice guy, but one of the worlds best DJs, has great taste in music and is releasing all the Shadow Dancer original material. What you didn't know till now is how my re-edit of Shadow Dancer's fabulous Me My Head remix sounds like. Go ahead and get to know now.

Me My Head - White Lights (Shadow Dancer Remix / Malente Re-Edit)
(yousendit)

Ah and by the way here's a little something for my German readers: it's around 30 degree celsius where I'm at now. Till next week. If i'm not too lazy...

BERLIN BATTERY COMPILATION (a special Malente Bonus Edit)

This Comp gets a lot of love thruout the net and it deserves every inch of it. It has been re-hosted on a lot of good sites already. From the fast life to lemur to nerdy frames and and and. This all free present came five days early for Christmas, so you might be spoilt getting the greatest gift early this year. Well we Berlin Batteries just made it a bit early to get our friend blogs something to give away in time ;) You haven't got it yet? Shame on you. Here it is again.

BERLIN BATTERY COMPILATION (zShare) (zip file, 89mb)

But today on Christmas day (after a lot of cake) I have a very special addition to the comp of the year. A bonus track not included in the original package. A little extra present.

Heaven 17 - Penthouse And Pavement (Malente Re-Dub)

(yousendit)

Fits with my other 80s new wave, pop, disco dubs of Kajagoogoo and Spandau Ballet. Check out the videos of the originals too. These come in handy for your Christmas party or New Years Eve. Did I say that I loved them, loved you, loved the world? I should have...

Malente - Axel Fireflies (Mash Up) (06/08/2004)

It's time to admit it. I did that bootleg. Released 06/08/2004 this has been played by everybody and if I remember right even Black Strobe who's Italian Fireflies I (ab)used.

Not to long ago we Berlin Batteries were having dinner and everybody went "I played this forever". Only half of the guys knew that I mashed this up in 2004. Once this mash up even appeared on a compilation where they licensed Harold Faltermeyer's Axel F., credited it and put on my Bootleg instead. Crazy.

If you think I was just stealing all of this, you are probably right and I thought so too until some Crazy Frog half a year later "stole" my mash up and took it to another level. Well, you could say he was inspired by it and thought: "You could do a stupid ringtone and a hilarious video for this. But first of all you have to add a lot of cheapness and cheese. Hahaha! I'm cray. Frog crazy".

Malente - Axel Fireflies (Mash Up) (06/08/2004)
(yousendit)

I only have the 192kbps file left. As soon as I finished doing this, I closed and didn't save the arrangement. Furthermore I converted the wav right after into the mp3 and lost it somewhere. The icing on the cake is that if you bought the vinly back then in 2004, you most likely bought a vinyl pressing from a master that was done of a 192kbps file. Shocking. The pic on top is showing Harold Faltermeyer and his buddies recording the original Axel F. tune. Concentrated work. Shocking too. This week fuck myspace.

Mystery Jets - Half in Love (Foamo RMX / Malente Re-Dub)

So, if you're into british rock music and dance music influenced stuff plus you don't buy your vinly at rough trade shop, go get your kicks at norman records. That's where I order my Late Of The Pier, Foals and Mystery Jets.

And if, like with my "Half In Love" 7" of the Jets, they get confused and send you the wrong item, you just contact them and they help you personally and immediately. Awesome service. Most of the stuff you find e.g. at juno they offer 50 pence cheaper. And they carry a lot of items juno doesn't have.

I find "Half In love" one of the cheesiest but best Mystery Jets songs, not to say I love it. And I also love what Foamo did. What I don't like though is the original vocals with Foamo's Instrumental. So I took the liberty to "fix" that for playing it out in my sets. Hope everyone digs this.

For those who didn't now the original till now, I added the video this time. So go buy Mystery Jets vinly at norman records. Or all these dope Foamo jams in all the other online or in town shops.

Damn. I just saw that Foamo plays in Brisbane Empire Club New Years Eve and I play in Brisbane Monastery Club same NYE. Who did this? Guys!? You should merge these parties as these clubs are not even 100 meters away from each other anyway. You Brisbananians are craaaazzzzyyyy... (and have good taste in music obviously)

Robert Boogert - Deserve You (Malente Re-Edit)

Not too long ago I stumbled upon Robert Boogert, producer from the Neatherlands. And today I really wanna share my enthiasm with you. As soon as I heard his definition of bassline driven fidget-house-music some questions crossed my mind. So I conctaced him on sykpe to gain knowledge.

Malente: „Where are you coming from musically? Your production sounds great. You must have done stuff before... any former projects?

Robert Boogert: „Ehm yeah. I'm originally a jazz guitarist. I'm attending conservatory in Amsterdam, which is a great school to study the jazz. Two years ago I heard some awesome basslines which made me into house music. Before then I never would've thought I'd like that style. But I sure do!!! I'm mainly trying to put some originality and music theory into the house. Because I don't often hear that. Anyway, I never produced before, I play in several bigbands and funkbands. I also have a fusion band where we only play instrumental songs that I write

Malente: „I see. That explains a lot. You got the ears. What I found unique about your apporach on fidget stuff is that it's really soulful, musical, funky and positive. Warm but the same time rockin' hard. And it sounds nothing like music theory or dry at all.

Robert Boogert: „Yeah, I really like it when it has a curtain recognizeble sound, not just a bassline. It needs to be an actual song.“

Malente: „So what did you release and what's on your scedule next?

Robert Boogert: „I released three EP's: Phatique EP (Downsouth), The Blizz EP (Hypotron Records) and Problemized EP (SMD Records). Deserve you that track you edited is on The Phatique EP in it’s original version. You should also check out Broke on this EP. It’s one of my personal favourites. Coming soon is Da Hype EP on Prompt Digital wich will be really good!! And there’s an upcoming EP on SMD Records, where im more into the Daft Punk style. Last but not least a Remix of Kynatix is to be out, wich I just uploaded on myspace.

Malente: „As you're from Amsterdam. Do you work with people like Brabe (he uses some sounds quite similar) or Mason or Jesse Voorn?

Robert Boogert: „Barbe, is a dude who makes awesome tracks. Maybe there’ll be a cooperation with him in the future. I hope that somehow we start a new 'Genre' although that might be to ambitious. But it certainly is something people not heard often before I think.“

Malente: „Yeah that's for sure. Barbe did a great remix for my forthcoming 12" on Southern Fried. Dope production! You already released quite a bit, but your name's not out there yet (trying to change that with this post). You feel you need to learn how to DJ? Also because that's where the money's at? I mean you can buy some ice cream with the money you made from your 3 EPs, but playing DJ gigs could get you a Volkswagen.“

Robert Boogert: „Yeah definitely!! I'm working on that right now. A friend of mine who's in the Beesmunt Soundsystem is teaching me now. And what DJ-sets I need to buy, all that stuff. Although it’s hard because the Jazz study needs a lot of time, though I love the Dj world to!! So I think i'm going to lay low on the jazz for a while and focus on djing and producing. I recently bought a 'Mixer' which gives me the oppurtinity to have a great guitar sound. I’m going to use this on my new releases gonna be awesome! More funky soul with crazy basslines.“

Malente: „Yeah man. Keep the musical input coming. As you said before many of the artists don't even know how to play an instrument (me for example).

Robert Boogert: „Haha. For sure adds substance to the music we make, but well fortunately there are no rules in music! Everything is possible right?! I love ur productions though. If you know every single musictheory it’s hard to keep an adventurous sound .“

Malente: „I think it’s just good we have all these different approaches. Sounds like final words...“

Robert Boogert: „Hopefully my name will come into the scene soon, Volkswagen sounds nice.“

Malente: „Fingers crossed! And hey, you should get that "Jazz" tune by the Beatdoctors on Jaimie Fanatics new Label „We Are All Kidz“, it’s on beatport. Could be the soundtrack to this interview... well second track on this soundtrack after my Deserve you Re-Edit.

Robert Boogert: „I’ll check it out!“

And, dear reader, you should check it out too. Plus Robert’s myspace and all the related stuff. There’s so much more than just Justice and Soulwax out there. Explore!

DJ Touché - The Paddle (Malente Re-Edit)

I did this edit in 2003, that time even Tiefschwarz played "The Paddle". Difficult to imagine when you see what they do now. Not so difficult to imagine though what Touché does now, but for those of you who lack imagination, i'll give you something to chew on.

That guy Touché came a long way. First he appeared on my radar when doing downbeat & big beat as Wiseguys with DJ Regal in the mid 90ies, being responsible for "The Sound You Hear" and the legendary/annoying "Ooh La La". There were a lot of rumors back then that, because of "forgetting" to clear some samples, they didn't earn anything on that project. I have no idea if that's the case, but I do know that I loved their "Cowboy '78" track. After the second album they split and around 2000 Wiseguys was over. Till then Touché did some tracks on his own under this moniker.

Finshed with Wiseguys Touché releases under exaclty that name + DJ and got more into house. "Good looking" in 2002 released on Defected was no doubt the biggest success of this more disco housy (in a good way... I know you can't imagine disco house being good.. well try to!) period. His stuff on Heat didn't sound that genius to me.

"The Paddle" was his first release on Southern Fried in 2003 and different from the usual house in many ways. Same time Touché started his own label Body Clap that only survived a few realeses. Here's where he put out the first stuff of foster-son Boy 8-Bit.

Getting a bit tired of producing club stuff all day (I assume) he formed the Black Ghosts in 2006 with the singer of "We Are Your Friends"-Simian. Now you take a look at who remixed their great "Any Way...", listen careflully to all the mixes, compare 'em to my "Paddle" Re-Edit and you'll know what Touché does today, apart from Black Ghosts I mean....

Yes right he's the drummer of Metallica. So don't download anything here go buy DJ Touché stuff on beatport or juno if you're into vinyl.

Egotronic - Raven gegen Deutschland (Saint Pauli RMX / MALENTE RE-EDIT)

Every thursday they're doing the FOO. Well if you live in Hamburg you'll know what I'm saying. FOO-Club exists about two years. They had events in different loctions and since this autumn they're bringing "the shit" to Hamburg's finest Baalsaal.

Baalsaal is the little brother of infamous Neidklub (the basement of it to be precise) at the heart of Reeperbahn. I dare to say that they have the best system in town. Artists who played for FOO are Les Petis Pilous, Housemeister, Strip Steve, Mr. Flash, Lars Moston, Robosonic, Surkin, Nhan Solo and Saint Pauli who are also involved in the organization. Rrrrrrespect!

What a great idea to reclaim the thursday. Some years ago parties during the week were quite common in every German city, but then the system succeded in making students work harder and pay more for their education. It Succeeded in exploiting workers far more then some time ago, in stealing everybody's time and brainwashing us in the name of an almighty economy. Fuck that. Strike back. Go dance your ass off and "bang your ed" during the week. Future guest at FOO will be Fukkk Offf, Decalicious and CLP.

Berlin Battery - Saint Pauli - Malente - FOO. The "axis of no evil at all" gives away 3x2 tickets. Contact max@fooclub.de and get to see The Coconut Wireless on thursday 6th of november (this thursday) 11pm.

And you can get my Re-Edit of Saint Pauli's blasting Remix for Egotronic's anthem "Raven gegen Deutschland" only here and now on top. If you live in the Hansestadt you need to go to FOO though to check the mix on the best system in town. Thank god it's thursday soon.

Late Of The Pier - Bathroom Gurgle (Tronik Youth RMX / MALENTE RE-EDIT)

Man, have I been annoyed when last weeks post was taken down by blogger on thursday. Why did that happen? First I thought that I must have overdone it with my self promotion. Pointing out how good all my recent releases and remixes were and will be, would not have pleased the gods of the internet. I realized though that boasting and bragging are not a crime yet, not in blogs anyway. It must have been my re-edit. But why was I not allowed to post this mp3?

I am a vergetarian, so beef is not what I aim for (well, I eat fish). There's more than one good reason that made me confident that my post would not be an offense to either artist, remixer or record company. I did not see any possible harm and had my reasons for that.

For one I got the original "Flah Gordon (Per QX Remix)" by Revolte from another blog. You might smile, but it gets better: I downloaded the file over a year ago! Back then I even tried to contact the ominous Revolte project from France to license one of their tracks for my officially released 2CD "WHOW" (CD1 DJ-Mix / CD2 best Malente Remixes till 2007). This would have made them some cents, but they did not answer my request. After I played my "Flash Gordon Re-Edit" out for some months I also wrote a myspace message to the original remixer Per QX, letting him know that I loved his work and played it out everywhere. No reply.

By telling you this I just wanna let you know, that most of times I am not only posting something, but by posting an exclusive Malente Re-Edit I wanna be supportive, wanna help create an awereness for the artist/remixer, wanna try to generate sales (I am an idealist, am I not?). To re-edit sonething aims to show my respect for the artist/remixer. If I spend precious time on editing a track, I consider it to be (at least potentially) outstanding. You should realize that re-editing, only gives me a chance to make tracks better that are kinda good already. This is a bit of a difference to the process of remixing, where you can turn night into day.

Which brings me to another thing I wanna add here. Please think twice before re-posting my re-edits on your sites. In my humble optinion one does not deserve as much credit for edits as for remixes. With the re-edits the focus should remain on the original artsits/remixers. By re-editing I'm just spicing things up. If you're a frequent reader you'll know that I post a proper remix though from time to time. If I do and you dig it, feel free to re-post it. Then I will be the honoured one.

Dope Fiend (MALENTE's 1 Hour Remix)

I couldn't sleep last night. And this is the result. The Song of the moment in a devestating Malente Remix. Upfront here.

The Artist Name remains a secret. In fact these guys went thru a great deal of camouflaging as you can see above to hide their identity. The hole in the guitar player's trousers reveals though that it's not the Klaxons. But if you're curious, you can read more about this secret over at Discodust and Get Weird Turn Pro and get the Original Version of Dope Fiend.

As you can see from the legth of my senteces today I'm not in the mood for writing a book. Not even a short story. So I better stop and you better listen. More to come next week. Yours Malente.

Quadrophonia - Quadrophonia (MALENTE Re-Edit)

This is essential. And now it's time to share it. I kept this to myself long enough. So grab it now before the whole Rave frenzy is over. Best Remix / Re-Edit of this classic. No arguing here.

The original Quadrophonia was first released in 1990 and a cooperation of the two Belgians Lucien Foort with Abbeloos Olivier. Both of them now seem to be more into cheesy house. The kind of music I can imagine you can actually make money with. A lot of "soulful" vocals in their production.

Speaking of vocals. Quadrophonia, also the name of the project, hired a rapper even less talented then Turbo B of Snap! in 1991 to make this already big tune a bigger success. I recently bought the Album "Cozmic Jam" and wished the rapper to hell because if there was a quality to those tracks on there, he terminates it as soon as he drops his lines. Well that's how it is with the oldschool rave stuff. If you are into this sometimes crappy sometimes brilliant music you have to check the oldskooltimes blog by the way.

My Re-Edit though is quality and doesn't feature any part time rappers. You can even open your set with it, because I did a special Intro Re-Edit. Grab grab grab.

Hey and you have to check out Turbo B's myspace. He only got 86 friends though his site is da shit!

Everyday Hustle (AC Slater RMX / MALENTE Re-Edit)

The Sinden remix of Rick Ross Hustlin' was the first Bmore track that grabbed my attention. This was back in 2006 when the second wave of Bmore began. The first wave never reached Europe so don't blame me for being ignorant. With it's oldschoold drumloops / breaks it defenitely had a big impact on the sound happening today.

Damn close to a proper cover is this version of Hustlin'. The AC Slater Remix has been all over the net, I know that and I usually try to avoid editing those songs already posted to death. This time though I edited about everything, even slowed it down and made it a proper 4/4 djtool for those who like just a flavour of dubstep in their sets.

Well, as you don't read this anyway and download just everything right away, who am I to tell you how this Re-Edit sounds like? It is by the way Re-Edit no. 22 here on Berlin Battery. From me to you and for free as always. I really hope that all the work I put into this not only helped you to rock your floor, but also made you buy some tracks or even better 12"es by the featured artists. They need your financial support. No joke.

Foals - Electric Ballroom (MALENTE Remix)

I really wanna do more bands. I mean I get a lot of remix requests these days, but not too many from the likes of the Faint, Friendly Fires, the Ghost Frequency, the Presets, well you name 'em.
And this is though I have a THING (big) for quality IndieRock.

I'm not only having breakfast to the Rumble Strips or the Zutons, oh no. I've also been doing IndieRock parties in my hometown every wednesday from 2001 for at least 4 years. And when I have an offday from Djing as Malente I ...and I know this sounds odd for a professional DJ: I still I love to conquer the decks of the best local IndieRock Club and battle the DJ(-friend) there.

Incidentally this will happen again on friday. So if you're around, come to Fieber-Tanzparty at AMP in Munster, Germany and watch me spin 7"es of stuff from These New Puritans to the Ting Tings, from the Kills to the Rapture and so on...

Hey, and at least I had the chance to do a remix for one of my, and even more important, my girlfriend's favourite bands: Foals. Unfortunatley (part1) it's not gonna be released on vinyl. Unfortunately (part2) it's not one of their stronger songs. But this shouldn't be taken as an excuse or a complaint.

I'd do remixes for an even weaker new the Strokes, Franz Ferdinand or Depeche Mode tune. So dear label of those bands i'm so passionately talking about: just call me up, drop me an email plus throw a little bit of money at me and I'll be on the job in no time...

Evil Nine - They Live (Trevor Loveys RMX / MALENTE RE-EDIT)

1988 John Carpenter made his only kids movie, They Live. "Nada, an unemployed construction worker/wrestler comes into town looking for a job and the American dream, resplendent in his every-man mullet and check shirt combo. Following some curious police brutality, Nada stumbled upon what looks at first sight like a pair of low prop budget plastic sunglasses. They look pretty slick to him. After putting them on though, the world becomes a very different place - the innocent Nada finds himself living in a heterosexist, capitalist psychogeographical nightmare of Kruger-like proportions. Billboards urge him to get married, go to church and obey. Money turns into blank pieces of paper bearing the legend THIS IS YOUR GOD. Certain individuals turn out not to be nation loving Americans but parasitical aliens. Before long, he is all out of patience and bubblegum."

In August 2008 Evil Nine release their Single "They Live". This comes with an outstanding Trevor Loveys Remix. Buy, Consume, Obey. Did you know Trevor Loveys releases music under that name since 1996? Show some respect!

At the moment I'm sitting in an appartement right at Bondi Beach, Sydney yearning to get out and grab a coffe at "Trio". I feel glad that I optimized Trevor's great work already three weeks ago. May my post be with you... Hey, don't forget to check John Carpenter's other flicks and, far more important, the awesome soundtracks he himself composed for his movies.

Die Fantastischen Vier - Einfach Sein (MALENTE Remix)

I’m ill. No joke. I’ve been ill since last monday and decided to party the pain away this weekend, but that didn’t work. On the contrary. Fever and sleeping all sunday and monday were the result and even today I’ll go to bed early. Nonetheless here’s my weekly post. This time with a remix I made a little over a year ago for Germany’s best known HipHop act Die Fantastischen Vier. They never released it, so this is a Berlin Battery exclusive. You should buy their first album „Jetzt Geht’s Ab“ if you haven’t got it already. It’s from 1991 and after Falco’s works the first German HipHop album plus pure fun.

Crookers & Boy 8-bit - The Crow (MALENTE Re-Edit)

I feel sorry for Proxy. I mean he just released his "Dancing In The Dark" twelve inch on Turbo and that's all nice, but his hit record to come is called "The Raven" and it is not yet out. What makes me feel sorry is that since some weeks you can find a poor radiorip of this gigantic tune on the net. This has been cut out of an Erol Alkan DJ-set broadcasted by Radio Brussels. The sound is not good at all and even worse is that you can hear the crowd cheering in the breakdown. Anyway, the two most shocking things about this are, that some blogs really post this radiorip without stating (or maybe even recognizing) it is one and - far worse - that there are "DJs" out there that play this version out (to people in a club!)

This must be more than a nightmare for the artist. People can't buy your record or download it, the tune is getting old and it is played in a very low quality on some retarded "new rave parties". Well it would be a nightmare for me. But as if this was not enough, Proxy himself uses his own unreleased hit as basis for a Moby Remix, thus speeding up the tune's aging process. Well, though to me all this looks like a desaster, I haven't given up hope that it is just guerilla marketing. At least the original "Raven" in a good resolution hasn't leaked.

In the meantime two of my favourite producers Crookers and Boy 8-bit team up for a "Raven" inspired tune, coverversion or is it an official remix? Who knows. They call it "The Crow" and my Re-Edit is essential to every DJ set from now on till you can buy Proxy's original. This is one of the moments you can be proud of yourself for visiting Berlin Battery and my Re-Edit post regularily.

Acid Jacks - Mookie (T-Rek's Mashup / MALENTE Re-Edit)

The original "Mookie" is from Melbourne's Acid Jacks. That tune has been mashed up with Alter Ego's Fuckingham Palace by another Melbourne DJ named T-Rek. He also did a proper T-Rek remix for Mookie, but his mash up is better. It has never been released and I never saw it posted anywhere either, so again: exclusive (how boring). My Re-Edit tries to give it more structure and shortens it down to a size where you can play it out without being annoyed by the retardedness of the track. Well, it tries to. You should judge on that yourself.

Acid Jacks by the way are too mates who remix/remixed everything that mooves from Goose to Lars Moston to Saint Pauli to Cazals. Lately they started using the names Metalzone and Jackmaster for remixes too to cover up their tracks. Don't let them fool you. If you never heard of Acid Jacks before shame on you. Check out their fabulous "Awake since '78" on Tommie Sunshine's label or/and the mindblowing "Auto Riot" they prodcued with Boy 8-Bit under the name of Full Mental Slackers. You can find "Auto Riot" only on my WHOW 2CD, cause it hasn't been properly released still. Another good reason to give me your money.

At last something totally unrelated. But I have to say thanks to everybody who came out to Fusion Festival last weekend to see me play at Seebühne. You were amazing! Hope you did not miss Shir Khan and Saint Pauli later on. They rocked it. Yuksek live was blowing me away too. Shame that I did not manage to check out Toxic Avenger and Riva Starr. If you've never been to Fusion Festival you'll have to go next year. No corporate shit, no stupid security, bring your own drinks/food - just great people and MUSIC. I have been missing DJ Supermakt, Lars Moston and the Acidkids this year though. Somebody forgot to invite them. Hope the whole family gets to play there in 2009.

Hostage - Blockhead (MALENTE Re-Edit)

Hostage has got his first ever appearance in Germany / Berlin this saturday. Be there. And read this. I know it's long, but it's worth reading, no joke.

His tunes are all over the blogs and all over the blogs only. Hostage records, Hostage releases? Nope. Working his ass off during the week for some corporation Alan gives his music away for free: "Mash up the speaker", "Roll on", "Snake Charmer". Honestly, if I produced these tunes I would have tried to sell them. These tunes are great and better than 99% of the stuff pressed on vinyl last month. So why not sell them? I had to ask him and this is what he says:

"There are many factors which mean that I give tracks away for free. I am very busy with a 9-5 day job, and I cannot, and do not want to dedicate my spare time to dealing with releases. I've done this before, it's boring and labourious. There's very little financial incentive for me to do it either. Any money I make from music I feel I should make by my shows where I can play the music I have given away, often for free, out to the people, who will perhaps have therefore heard it and be familair with it more often because it was free, and if they like it and want to offer money for this music they can do so in the way of turning up and dancing to it: afterall that's what it's designed for! I often find that the kind of music I write is very time senstive too in terms of current trends, I'm not writing timeless classics, I'm writing dancefloor zeitgheists which are primarily for my DJ sets which when I'm done playing them, or want others to play them too, give them away.

If I was to wait for them to be released by normal channels I fear they would become stale and dated by the time all the buggering about that is involved with a release takes.
Maybe I don't value my music enough, maybe so much of it often contains a sample that in order to obtain sample clearance would be such a hassle that it's not worth releasing it through the normal channels. I am much more into playing shows! Finally, and this is a bit of a strange one but I'd be a total hyprocite if I was to demand payment for all my tunes as to be honest I get a fair amount of the music I listen to either free or illegally. Therefore this is my personal justification and a way of purifying my soul of all piracy sins. :P

But: I'll now go on to be a hypocritical hyprocrite as I do have some proper releases as I have been advised that for me to be taken seriously as a proper artist it is important to have proper releases: Depending on which way the wind is blowing I sometimes agree and disagree with this, however at the moment I have a remix out on SIC records. It's a remix of Da Bleep by 2's Company and it's available on Juno and many other international record shops on 12". Forthcoming I also have my remix of Tommie Sunshine's "Limit of your Mind" which will be released very shortly on Alphabet City and a remix of On Snap!! "High Top Fade" which will be released on Sweat it out Records (Australia). Full details of this forthcoming releases are on my blog on my myspace as the most recent entry.

Also forthcoming is my remix of The Japaneese Popstars "Rise of Ulysees" which will be released on Gung Ho! Records.
Lastly, Roccodisco #1 should be out sometime soon, but I've been saying that for a long time now, but it's been mastered and the 4 track sampler is ready to go, but I know the Roccoboys are having trouble with distribution. It's an area I know not much about but...hold tight.. It should also be noted thatI had my first 12" single out 10 years ago and it sold 1600 copies, but it's a track I'd rather forget about!!"

I'd say forget the last chapter about his forthcoming releases, because after reading all this you know you will have to support this man at one of his shows. That's what you owe him for downloading all his stuff. And your sweat on the dancefloor will be the currency you pay him in. So don't be a blockhead this weekend. It's party mayhem as there's the Berlin Battery Party at Picknick this Friday and:

On Saturday you should witness the first ever appearance of scotsman Hostage in Germany at Birthday Party (Maria). For all those who still think they don't owe Hostage nothing, I'll post a brand new tune by the man in an exclusive Re-Edit I've done today. Free of charge, but everybody who downloads this will have to support Hostage this saturday. If you can't make it to Maria in Berlin on saturday this track is not for you! All about Hostage and the Birthday Party line up this saturday here:
