I had such a good time in Thailand I nearly forgot about blogging for a second. However - if you are in town you could come to Weekendclub today (Me and Digitalism spinning). Tomorrow you can catch Jack Tennis at Cookies and me Djing at Ritterbutzke. See you somewhere on the dancefloor. A good new year to all of you.
What a great new band from iceland! You defenitly have to check out their album "How To Make Friends" (out in february), incl. their next single "Par Avion". Here is the story behind this song : "One very cold winter day there was an article in the newspaper about an Icelandic girl that had moved to the Caribbean and was renting a house on the beach for a small amount of money. At the time it felt almost ridiculous to live on a frozen island and pay high rent for a tiny apartment. We just wanted to move right away. It helps singing this song, then you can go to the Caribbean for 3 minutes and 47 seconds."
This is electro-pop at it's best and the next big thing in 2010. Word!

21 year old wunderkind Jonthan Boulet from Sidney just released his debut album on MODULAR and it is as great as expected. The guy reminds me of the young D.I.Y.- Beck, mixed with some Vampire Weekend, Empire of the Sun and lots of other things. "A Community Service Announcement" is one of my songs of 2009 already, now there is a disturbing video for it. Wonder if this album ever gets a proper release in Germany or drowns somewhere in the basements of Warner like the Cut Copy album.
Normally I dont like if a club makes a liverecording of my DJ-Set - especially if you dont know it before. Suddenly a DJ-set of yours appears online....and you are not happy with it because nobody knew you were fucked up or told you that this particular girl was asking for Paul Kalkbrenner non-stop:( which kind of made you mess up your set. On the other hand sometimes I am glad if there is a recording - because it cant get any realer. Well - at Cubic Club in Salamanca (Spain) my Set was recorded and I didnt know before. It was definetly not my best set and also not my most advanced. But to make a long story short.....as we are already heading to the year 2010 - I thought that this set includes a lot of sureshots from 2009....so here you go. Get your Shir Khan dose. A warm hello to all of you from Bangkok.
And make sure you become a fan of Shir Khan on facebook:

“It is a sad day today but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables,” Panasonic spokesman Ian North explained
Turntable manufacturers Technics will be stopping production on their universally loved Technics 1200s and Technics 1210s. In a statement re-posted on dance board Global Hardstyle, the company behind the production of the Technics turntables Panasonic announced that they would cease the manufacture of Technics turntables in February next year, citing an increasing decline in sales as the motivation behind the line’s demise.
Okay laptop djs! so keep on checking your emails while you are deejaying...
Our friend Eric charged us to post this song with the words: "Post iT NOW, or die in beauty". And he is damn right. Nice one!
Ever wondered where Tronik Youth found those "Disco Sucks" chants on their new 12 Inch? Here you go. Apparently some people REALLY hated Disco back then. This is a collection of News coverage of this weird "campaign" taking place in a baseball stadium. "Blow it up!"
Dont get confused: Boris Dlugosch also released a track under the name of "Bangkok" on Phantasy Sound - which is huge indeed - but sorry to say that - we were first by naming the track "Bangkok":( - we just took longer to release it.
"Bangkok" is the follow-up to "Hyperactive".
Moving on from the Super Rave Sound the "Bangkok"-EP has a more Tropical-Tech-Thing going on, a ton of trumpets and horns and a great collab with Bonde do Role, Analogik and New Kidz.
We gonna give you the bonus download of "Lions" which fingers Dancehall with a sticky house digit, featuring New Kidz (South Rakkas Crew) bashment vocals remixed by Douster (ZZK). Huge support on this record from all global players: Diplo, A-Trak, Jesse Rose, Claude von Stroke, Style of Eye, Untold, Joe Goddart, Renaissance Man, Brodinski and more.

All set for mega-stardom for NEON INDIAN from US. The Brooklyn/Austin mix-truppe combine the best of The Avalanches, MGMT and the Beach Boys to bring back summer! I mean, what else do you want? They have an album out, which is really broken, but (feel)good, called "psychic chasms". The video is not amazing, but fits quite well. If you're not convinced yet, listen to their underground classic "Deadbeat summer" on their myspace.
As some might have noticed - JACK HAD A GROOVE is my new partyseries. The first 2 editions were a blast and JACK HAD A GROOVE seems to become a regular happening at WMF Berlin. Soon we will present you Riva Starr, Brodinski, Round Table Knights, Oliver $ and more. This saturday we have Noob (known for his recent collaboration with Brodinski on Turbo and his massive remixes for Tiga, Dance Area or Autokratz) from Bordeaux and Solo (my favourite italian dude who just released a killertrack on Sound Pellegrino) from London. Also on the bill: Mumdance (you know him for his track Eurostarr or his eclectic party-dubstep-sets) from LDN and Jackmaster (the guy that runs the fantastic night NUMBERS in Glasgow and hosts the label Dress2Sweat) from Glasgow. Last but not least, myself and Renznik from Keinemusik. Visual delights come from our friend Ultramoodem. Be there.
Here is a 30 minute DJ-Set of mine to give you an impression of the sound of the night:

Life is a brand and whatever brand you want to support or dont want to support - it seems like lineups are getting bigger and bigger on these kind of partys. For a thursdaynight the booking is quite massive - though a bit too varied if you ask me. I dont know how all of this will work musicwise together: FLYING LOTUS, JEANS TEAM, N.A.S.A., DJ PHONO, AZZIDO DA BASS, CAJUAN, SHIR KHAN, THE FILMS all at WMF. Lets find out. If you wanna hear me play some music come over. Dont worry - its not a VIP-Party.
First episode will be out on 19th October 2009 ... Check the trailer.
Now here is something very different. To me - the hottest producers of 2009 are probably UNTOLD - ZOMBY - SOLO - RENAISSANCE MAN - DOUSTER - HUDSON MOHAWKE - DORIAN CONCEPT - NOOB and KU BO. Speaking of KU BO....Stefan Moerth - the Vienna producer - who is behind KU BO also does the project STEREOTYP. He and AL HACA were together with THE BUG probably the first to form a radical new wave of Digital Dancehall. When you see acts or DJS like MAJOR LAZER or TODDLA T - you have to give it up at least to STEREOTYP who kind of built this new dancehallsound out of nowhere. Not long ago he contributed an exclusive Dj-Mix for my Radioshow on Fritz. Get it here first.

Its freezing and I am chilling in my bed - kind of ill. Once upon a time there were 3 friends who decided to release bootlegs - mainly from the HipHop-world on Vinyl. The idea was simple - so we formed the Vinyl series Broken Bootlegs. We only released 3 Vinyls and one special edition. The idea came when german ex-rap-star and ex-VIVA-host Scope called me and said that he really likes the Broken Bootlegs stuff. He asked me if I would be interested in releasing some german funk edits - just in the style as Berlin DJ Hype did with his FUNKVERGNÜGEN Mixtape. He also remarked that Hans Nieswandt from Cologne (Ex-Whirlpool Productions / Author and Journalist) has done a nice edit. So it slightly all came together. I asked DJ Hype&Jim Dunloop to contribute a track....they did a rework of Su Kramers "Weisser Sand". Funnily enough - when the Vinyl came out - the recordcompany who owned the rights to the original recordings found out about this record and tried to destroy all of the Vinyl. Luckily - they never found me - but the recordstore who sold it had to pay some serious money....Ouch and sorry:(
Then I also asked Roskow Kretschmann (former member of Jazzanova) to contribute a track....He did a coverversion of Kraftwerks "Model" and he also sung himself...I think it still sounds very cool with a nice retro funk touch. He used his alias of Knister Geschwister for this. Scope and Defcon did a weird Roberto Blanco rework with a massive Funk Break - seriously crazy - they did that under their alias of Primetime Bros. Last but not least - I had to meet with Hans Nieswandt in some hotel in Berlin. He was in Berlin to give interviews and to read from his new book. It was the last track I got. Its a rework of the DDR-Classic from the Veronika Fischer Band - "Wir fahren mit dem Zug". The song meant a lot to Hans cause he said that he is always going by train - as a DJ and as a author - and he really thinks that this song is his anthem....He did that rework under the alias of Edith Honegger in order not to get in trouble:) Well - and because on Saturday I am also going by train I thought I am gonna share this with you...sorry I only found bad quality mp3s on my laptop. If you want the full quality you have to look at Ebay and maybe try to get the Vinyl...it was called: THE GERMAN KRAUT INVASION - REWORKS OF GERMAN FUNK HISTORY.
Veronika Fischer Band - Wir fahren mit dem Zug (Edit Honegger Rework)
I kind of fell in love for this track again when I was playing it to my Australian friends. Studio R was an anonymous project from Rocky Flanger and me. There were only 2 12inches....1 on Sonarkollektiv with a feature from Mocky - and 1 on Black Label Compost. There are still lots of unreleased tracks on my harddrive - such as tracks with Yo Majesty, Mr Velcro Fastener and many others....but I dont know if they are that great. Maybe I share them one day.
Studio R feat. Capitol A - A+R (Llorca Remix)
RE: HAYDN is a new project from Universal Classic/Deutsche Grammophon based on the 200th anniversary of classic composer Joseph Haydn with modern producers - such as me SHIR KHAN, Moulinex, Dorian Concept, Patrick Pulsinger&Diskokaine, Stereotyp, Alexander Robotnik, Krazy Baldhead and others. It was not easy to remix Haydn because I thought too much in the beginning of how to start but in the end I just decided to go for a simple Tribal House Remix. Here it is.

After Compadre Jack Tennis did his thing, here now is my old school 80s disco-version of Alan Wilkis'super-funky track "N.i.c.e". It's a desperate try to get summer back. Imagine eighties Disco-Kings The Gap Band fronted by a white nerdy Prince 2009. There even is a long bass solo in it. Enjoy and listen to Alan Wilkis other music. He is very special!
>>>ALAN WILKIS - N.i.c.e. (dj supermarkt shredit bootie)
and to complete the berlin battery package, here is Jack Tennis' remix of the same song again:

This young nerd is from Detroit, the home of Motown, and that's also his biggest influence. Man, he's got Soul! Think of the 60's & 70's motown sound mixed with the beats of J Dilla. He soon has an album out on Stones Throw, which can make the sun come out, even in Berlin! Enjoy the new thing: Nerd Soul!! Amy, watch out!
it's time for some Obama on berlin battery. if you do not understand this video, you are a perfectly healthy person, congratulations. It means you haven't followed this year's "scandal" on the MTV-VMAwards. Actually even the scandals are getting poorer and poorer, not only MTV'S program. But, on the other hand, if you have seen what happened, you will really like this video... hm...
This Saturday is going to be mad. Exploited Records&Berlin Battery teamed up to bring you the second edition of:
JACK HAD A GROOVE. Last party at WMF with Mowgli, Solo, Lucas Hunter, Snax and Reznik was a blast. This saturday its the Recordrelease of my Double-CD: "Shir Khan presents Exploited". We invited dOP from Paris to join us. After their wild shows at Wilde Renate it is the first time they perform in Berlin Mitte at Picknick. And they are bringing some special guests. We only say: YOU HAVE TO DANCE. Showtime already at 1.30! Dj-support from man of the moment: DAN M who delivered a massive house debut together with his mate James Braun on Mothership. Reznik from the always great Keinemusik-Crew will warm it up and I will kick it with some dirty bassdriven house in the end. Outside we will have discoqueen Baby G who has released some nice Discorecords with her partner Pete Herbert under the name of L.S.B. on Eskimo. Her latest project Dance Disorder already is making some waves among the big disco Djs. And not to forget - Baby G's charming vocalfeature on the track ESTA SI, ESTA NO produced by The Glimmers. To mix it up stylistically we invited our friends Katy and Jess from Australia. Last year they have been smashing it at our party under the name of Gameboy/Gamegirl. Now - Gamegirl/Gamegirl is dead and Tranter is still in Australia - but we got the 2 young ladies to do a special Live-MC-Dj-Set. The way they look is the way they DJ: B52 meets SaltnPeppa. Word. And how can we make this party perfect? With thrilling beats from the Berlin Battery-camp Jack Tennis&Dj Supermarkt and not to forget the gorgeous ladies of Ponypop who have become favourites in the small room of Cookies and Picknick. We heard somebody is also celebrating birthday...or maybe even some more. Lets see and be there.
And if anyone of you reads german - here is a nice quote about dOP...in fact they are darlings of the german musicpress:
(Groove)

Thanks to the guy that spilled tons of fluid drugs into the Australian water system years ago, so we in the "boring old world" get crazy shit like Empire Of The Sun! This is so out of it, it's amazing. Flock Of Seagulls 2009! Love it or hate it!
Our friend Jason Forrest lately got into creating an IPhone application that I can really reccommend.
Its the world's first fully-featured sample manipulation instrument for I-Phone and its really a lot of fun.
You can manipulate your audiofiles via Pitch, Gate, Sample Size, Sample Order, Randomness and speed all indepently of one another. To get an impression of what it does watch the video. Actually, I think its something really cool to get for your I-Phone.

Just made a mix for english mag CLASH. This mix contains a lot of material from my label EXPLOITED - some of that can be heard on my upcoming Mix-CD SHIR KHAN - EXPLOITED out September 14th. Some other stuff will be released later.
This is how CLASH announced the mix:
"This week we have something rather special and painfully exclusive for you all. Berlin-based label boss, DJ and producer, Shir Khan here presents a showcase mix of his Exploited Records label for Clash, featuring brand new and classic material, and some exclusive preview tracks from an upcoming Exploited Records compilation (‘Exploited’, released on 14 September), again mixed by Khan and featuring some of the label’s finest moments.
A born and bred Berliner, Shir Khan started Exploited Records in his home city in 2007, and has since remixed the likes of Evil Nine and Bonde do Role as well as producing his own material. Exploited Records now plays host to some wide-ranging and innovative electronic talent – including Adam Sky and Mowgli – and its artists have been receiving numerous supportive spins from the likes of 2ManyDJs, Boys Noize, Erol Alkan and Diplo.
Accordingly, Khan’s mix for Clash – as well as the upcoming ‘Exploited’ compilation itself – is a seamless melting pot of electro-disco-krunk-tech-glitch-basement-funk that simply can’t fail to please even the most discerning ears.
Highlights here are plentiful, but include a typically superb bleep-hop Modeselektor remix of a track by fellow Berliner artist Siriusmo, and some ‘proper’ house (IE of the dirty, acidic variety), courtesy of innovative production/DJ duo Zoo Brazil. Not to be missed, at any cost."

it could have been our biggest Benicasssim show ever, but then Nature turned against us... and we couldn't play.
okay, there was quite a breeze all day, but when the huge fire next to the entrance of the festival started (see the video and listen to Paul Weller singing about love in the background...), it all began to go horribly wrong. The wind became a storm (or something much worse) and during Paul Weller's set around 21:00 (after playing Jam's "Eton Rifles") the big stage was shaking so much that somebody came onstage and made the band run from it. That pretty much was it. The storm got bigger and bigger, there was a scary amount of panic all around, because all kinds of things were breaking down and everything was about to fly away (and i mean even the big tents) and we had this horrible feeling (crammed in the open air backstage cause everybody had to escape out of the tents for safety reasons) that something really bad could happen anytime... Fortunately it didn't.
Some hours later it was clear, that there was no way the festival would go on that day and the organizers had to make an announcement that the friday was cancelled.
Actually the only reason why the 30.000 mainly english visitors didn't riot big time was the announcement of the mayor of the village Benciassim that the bars in the town would stay open the whole night. Clever bastard!
Last really poor thought: there were 40.000 people camping on the site. there was hardly a tent left on the camping area after the storm... Imagine!
Next day we flew over to Melt, who also suffered some bad wheather moments on friday and played a really great explosion-set on sunday evening. Thanks god (or whoever...)!
watch a bit le hammond inferno here:
some of you might know that I (dj supermarkt) used to be in a dj-duo called le hammond inferno and with my partner we also did the label bungalow records. well for three years we did not do anything because my partner left to Brasil to surf...
now we are back to play one BIG festival weekend on two of our favorite all time festivals!!
we are going to show you what we got (...not a lot):
17.7. Spain, benicassim
19.7. Dessau, Melt Festival
(playing two sets as Say Hoo! and Dj supermarkt and another as le hammond inferno?... maybe!... who knows...?!)
come as you are!
London is on fire in this moment - well there is a couple of nice people I am going to meet here. Met with Solo yesterday, will go recordshopping today, check out some exhibtion with an old school friend of mine at Hyde Park, then see Joyce Muniz, Mowgli&Solo for a beer, tomorrow will meet Toy Selectah from Mexico and then heat it up at new hipster place Dalston Superstore with Trailer Trash Buddy Ian Robinson and play later at "Always Fridayz" at the Egg with Style of Eye in Room 1. Saturday I will go to the Lovebox Festival and there will be also great after-partys....so lets see where I end....and the best thing: Jack Tennis will also come to London on friday. It cant get better than this. And when we are all done - we fly to Melt!Festival on Sunday....Berlin Battery madness at Gemini-Stage. Catch me and Supermarkt and the rest of LHI there and a bit of Brodinski, Yuksek and Tiga. Ciao!
This time it's not "Get on the floor and shake your body", it's "Get your barbe going and have some beers". When PalmsOut asked me for a special summer mix I instantly thought of the summer mixtapes I did when school holidays were coming up and a trip to greece or spain was planned with some friends.
With the PalmsOut mix I wanted to catch the spirit of these old tapes I recorded. Tapes containing music of all genres, cause all of your buddys have a slightly different taste in music. Tapes that give you a good time with beautiful, exciting and sometimes shocking music. Tapes that leave you be at one time and demand your attention at the other. Tapes like friends. Like those tapes we listened to over and over again while sitting at our tents or on the beach and having some beers.
In this blog thing we are in everything revolves around the dancefloor, the hype, the noise. I want to give you people what you missed, maybe without even knowing it: Music
like I said elesewhere: Music Forever

I was supposed to do some serious work yesterday, but instead I got stuck at Youtube.
From watching videos from "Bad Brains", "Andreas Dorau" to "The Sonics", "Kraze" to "Digital Underground" and "Del tha funkee Homosapien" - I got myself the whole repertoire of classic teenage Shir Khan-disco. Here is one of my favourite Hip Hop-Club-Jams: The Jungle Brothers - Straight out the Jungle.
Too many partys and a lot of Michael Jackson on each of it - which is good cause we all loved him. I have been hearing Michael Jackson tunes everywhere - in the car to Fusion Festival, at Fusion Festival - seeing ARK playing him - and well - he is all over the Berlin Fashionweek for sure. Also Boys Noize dropped Michael Jackson yesterday. Speaking of yesterday - I got to know Staygold (in the backstage with Jesse Rose, D.I.M, Crookers, Boys Noize, Amanda Blank) who also produced a beat on Amanda Blanks upcoming album. And Staygold asked me about Lorenz Rhode cause he just made a nice remix for Staygolds new single to be released on Magnetron Music.....well - and then I kept in mind that Lorenz sent me his Michael Jackson tribute....and since we still dont have one here in our blog here is one from Lorenz Rhode. BTW - its an original Lorenz Rhode production.
This is what he has to say: "Here's a little tribute I made some days ago, an hommage to one of my favourite records ever: 1991's "Dangerous". To me, the combination of hard hitting New Jack Swing beats and melancholic, sometimes dramatic string/pad chords makes for an intense atmosphere unlike anything he's done before or after. Like in "Why you wanna trip on me", "Who is it" or "In the closet", which might just be my favourite MJ song ever."
Lorenz Rhode - The Tribute
Omg, Berlin is going crazy. This week (Fashion Week) is so full of high class parties and bookings that you have to choose only a few, otherwise it will drive you totaly insane. Boys Noize, Peaches, Ladyhawk, Tiefschwarz, The Glimmers, DJ Hell, Shir Khan, Jazzanova...just to name a few. I play at the Club Berlin Party with Peaches (live with Sweet Machine), Shir Khan at the Levis Show with Boys Noize. Ah Yeah!!!!
"In the beginning there was Jack, and Jack had a groove. And from this groove came the groove of all grooves."
Dont worry - we didnt come to claim that this is your average house party. But there is something growling under the floorboards. As Lucas from ZDS said: "Gone are the multicoloured New Eras". In come the smart London boys...packed with low end bass tones, conga loops and african rhythms. "Jack had a Groove" presents the "New Wave" of upcoming house producers showcasing artists such as Mowgli&Solo or Lucas Hunter from Zombie Disco Squad.
Mowgli runs the superb digital label Deadfish and currently released under his moniker of Minimow - Bollyhouse - on Exloited Records. Solo is his partner in crime who stepped into the arena with his "Congaloid"-single on Dirty Bird. Zombie Disco Squad are the latest signing on Made to Play and one of the most forward-thinking DJS I have met so far. As some people might have already noticed - I have been pushing this worldbeat-influenced housesound quite a lot in my weekly radioshow on Fritz. Make sure you check out the great minimix from ZDS for Annie Mac. I have included a link at the end of this post.
To give the whole night a bit of a twist we have disco-boy Snax live on stage - with his band The Snackettes. Snax live is always a winner. No wonder he supported Jamie Lidell and The Scissor Sisters. Special Warmup by Reznik from Keine Musik Crew. Floor 2 is the more bleepy floor - fusing everything from IDM to Electronica, Dubstep, Crunk, Basement and Grime. Sasha Perera - singer from Jahcoozi - DJing alongside Robot Koch + debut liveshow from Unsportsmanlike (formerly known as Skate and support DJ for Moderat in the states). Viusual madness as always from Berlin Battery resident VJ Ultramoodem.

hola amigos. I am having my last club-dj-sets until late summer, because i need a break. Come on you easyjetters and join me in Madrid's great Low Club. It's one of my few resident clubs, so... you will like it!
actually... don't worry, i will see you this summer at Melt Festival, Berlin Festival and FIB Benicassim Festival... but, hey, that's like holidays, too...
AEROPLANE's new dj-mix comes with this month's mixmag magazine and it originally is called "disco balearica", but fortunately it is not very balearic, but more disco-pop and quite danceable. It features some of their amazing remix productions (Friendly Fires, Shortwave Set) plus some very unusual songs (Alphaville...anyone?), but it all fits perfectly and goes down very smoothly...
I really like it cause you can perfectly relax or dance slowly on this one! It would also be nice for a drive through the countryside on a sunday afternoon, but my car just died...
Long time no sign from me....I have been locked finishing my upcoming Cd, doing some remixes ect. This week I am playing 4 times...exhausting. 2 Partys not to be missed are these here... Fanklub Deejays are cool Djs from Belgium who run the monthly BLAST YOUR GHETTO-Party in Antwerp. Also included on the lineup: Dancemachine who I have already Djed with and I really liked her set last time in Brussels. Saturday is Picknick-time in Berlin....they are opening the outdoor-area which will be nice. Me and the Roundtable Knights taking it to the next level....and you wanna know how next level shit sounds? Here: download my 1 hour live-mix - no editing. Since there is a lot of exclusive material in there I dont post a playlist.

One of Berlin Battery's favorite producers "KNIGHTLIFE" from Melbourne is back with his second 12 Inch on CUTTERS (the label of Cut Copy). If you like warm modern electro-disco music that gets you shaking on the dancefloor, you will love this one. I still remember his great electro-disco-house set at our bb party @ Scala some time ago. Come back, amigo!
get it on beatport now or soon on vinyl (i guess...)
