Last friday I played with Dex and Shir Khan (which has been awesome). After the gig Shir Khan tried to give me some insight into the philosophy of our Berlin Battery Blog. Seems this philosophy partly contradicts with the basic idea behind my weekly post. The blog seems to be much more about good music in general and not so much stuff we Djs play out. Well and my post is about floorfillers and edits to play out. Music that you won’t neressarily be able to bear during breakfast.
I provide my edits for Djs – from a Dj for Djs. And I see the problem that this is done by many of the other blogs too, though not as good as I do it and not ONLY EXCLUSIVE EDITS. Anyway official philosophy is: Berlin Battery is something special and that’s why we prefer to give some insight into good music also and especially non-dancefloor music. So you could say that what I do is more like a column in a great magazine. This magazine features the most intriguing music around. Presented by people who love music, who have outstanding taste and are Djs the same time. I woud be more like a freelancer writing the dance music reviews.
So in order to not lose my job here writing merely about junk and the floor, scratching on the surface of musical culture, I will bow to the editors wills this week and post something that gives more insight into musical history. Well, it’s just my personal history though and to be honest it’s again dancefloor related. Aiming at the dancefloor but missing it by far and again unbearable for breakfast. I made this Michael Jackson Megamix in 1995/96 in order to win a radio contest. I didn’t win. After listening to „Speed Demon Overdrive“ you’ll know why.
Though it’s much too fast and musically not as good as what I do now (.. is it?) I think you’ll get the connection between this semi-pro classic and for example the Malente&Dex „Hyperactive“ track. This should also proof that I don’t just come from the breaks. I come from the music and I know it all. I just find it boring to tell you about it... Next week you'll be able to dance again for real, cause who would buy a music mag without dancemusic reviews?
