LATE OF THE PIER - Bathroom gurgle (BREAKBOT rmx)

Remember my "hope for 2008"-list some time ago? Well, both Breakbot and Late Of The Pier were on the very front spots. And now they team up. The result is simply brilliant. There are many remixes around of this LOTP-song, but most just added more of "everything", which did not work for me. And now Mr. Breakbot from Paris strips down the song on a groovy electro-disco beat and works out the great melodies by "stripteasing" the song. This guy is a genius! He also recently remixed his parisian friends of Justice, Alb, datA... Watch out...

THIEVES LIKE US - Drugs in my body (Amari Night members Club rmx)

the original version of "Drugs in my body" was out on Kitsune some time ago and missed a bit of punch/spice in my humble opinion. Now the guys from Amari Night Members Club turn the original into a bouncy Piano-disco-electro-bumper. Comes in the same style as the stuff on "Italians do it better" (Chromatics, Glass Candy), just with a much bigger bounce-factor. And that's no big surprise, as these guys are another great pack from Italy/Udine. There is new life in Italy's music after a long period of silence, thanks to rediscovering the past: Italo-Disco. (by the way: you must be mad or italian to have this photo as your profile...)

DAVID RUBATO - Circuit

another great release from... - no, not Australia this time - but Paris,...again. Extremly groovy, hypnotic disco-electro-funk, that will shake every booty on the dancefloor. It's simple, noisy and builds up totally repetitive, until you start to scream. This comes as a 12 inch with another strong version of the same song. Get it, it's excellent!

DIBIDIM - Don't play with the gun

Sometimes nowadays it is hard to understand why suddenly one amazing band (take HOT CHIP) is everybody's darling and others are lost out there in space (with a poor 9000 visitors on their myspace-page!!!) DIBIDIM are a duo from Norway and they are truely amazing. Imagine the fluffy sound of the very best early AIR songs, the very best ROYKSOPP songs and a bit of HOT CHIP, all produced by Thomas Dolby! I came across their 7 inch "Don't play with that gun" years ago and it blew me away and since then.... well, silence. And then suddenly i read that there is an album. But i could not find it anywhere, till it finally one day was available through www.piccadillyrecords.com (and still is, so run!) just to find out they produced it themselves without a label... Hello? Any label still out there with a bit of taste? It is called "Riders" and it is the sort of album you would tape for your girlfriend (well if you have one). The music is flying somewhere in space on some fluffy cloud and their millions of melodies (in one song) made me addicted in seconds. "Don't play with the gun" is also on it. I really like the way it builds slowly and then turns into a discofied pop song, that could be produced by the Toddterjelindstromprinsthomas-possee, just... with a tune, all these would kill for. Support these guys!!!

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS - Tombstone (video)

Fancy a bit of bouncy french house played by a synth overladen prog-rock-band? Here are the Midnight Juggernauts from...Australia, (again) of course. Seems like most of the stuff i like at the moment comes from Australia or France. Signed by The Cut Copy label in Aussieland they released a handful of 12 Inches so far. their debut album DYSTOPIA is already out in their home country, release in Europe will come soon... Expect a soundtrack-like synth-orgy with fat beats and weird vocals. Something you can dance to and take LSD to...well, probably best both together. I also really like their spacey artworks. And the video is ace too. I normally get bored quite soon watching Live-videos, but this has some extra-fun in it!

PREFAB SPROUT - Cue Fanfare (song for BOBBY FISCHER)

Chess legend and egocentric Bobby Fischer died yesterday. A more then erratic, sometimes dangerous character. After his legendary match in 1972 in Island, where he defeated russian chess-guru Boris Spassky, he became the symbol of "beating the sowjet powers" in the cold war for the US. Not happy with that image, his life was pretty much a complete escape after that. He disappeared for 20! years until a new match against Spassky in 1992 in Belgrad/Jugoslavia (a country that was then under an US-embargo). He was sentenced to jail by the US for playing the tournament in Belgrad, and therefor never came back to USA again. Instead he disappeared for another 12 years without being seen until he was arrested in Tokyo in 2004 in a poor mental and physical condition (foto). By then he was obviously eaten up by his ever growing hate for... well, almost everything, besides chess. That's why he will not only be remembered as one of the best chess players in history, but also for turning into a weirdo, becoming an ugly anti-semit, denying the holocaust, welcoming the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center and wishing the demise of the USA.
Prefab Sprout wrote this fantastic weird-but-beautiful pop-song about him on their first album SWOON in 1982, which is - suitably enough - also quite erratic... Unfortunately my english is not good enough to understand the lyrics well. In case you don't know the unique music of Paddy MacAloon's PREFAB SPROUT: this is another case of "everybody should own at least one album of PREFAB SPROUT before dying". I recommend "STEVE MCQUEEN", which is definetly one of my ALL-TIME-Favorite albums. Jaja!

BOBMO - To the Bobmobile

this is great fun! 19 year old boy from Bordeaux (that's in France...). Just released his first 10 inch on Institubes. He's said to be famous for being thrown out of Berlin Clubs for behaving bad (i will try to find out more about this rumour...). But he's 19, so what else do you expect... I simply love this track, because it is so...simply simple!. Electro, Breakbeats, weird breaks, cheap sounds. A rare, explosive mixture.

OH NO ONO - Practical money skills for life

...by the way. See you tonight at Magnet Club for this fantastic new band from Denmark. Their pop-idea is soooo over the top it makes me smile a lot! Typical example of a band sounding very 80s, but being too young to have lived in the "dark?" period. So they steal the sound of Devo, XTC and combine it with...Duran Duran, Thompson Twins or Sigue Sigue Sputnik and a bit of Franz Ferdinand. Impossible? Yes, but this sounds like a BIG party.

DJ SUPERMARKT : T.Y.T.T.S. - soft electro-disco dj-mix

Hello people with empty batteries. Here is a Dj-mix i did - for me, of course - but also to make you "soft"-dance and at the same time refill your winter-soul. It's not about the newest hot stuff, but about some of my finest songs for the dancefloor with a lot of old fashioned soul, that make me feel good! Each song is not your average functional dance stuff, but ....well, has soul, you know. Maybe it works for you, too. Try it out on your nearby dancefloor or while cooking in the kitchen. I guess it is a classic "late night tale"... and don't forget: t.y.t.t.s.!

HOT CHIP - Ready For The Floor

Amazing video for first single from Hot Chip's new album "made in the dark". Although full of other people's musical elements, their sound is getting so recognisable, this is what modern popmusic should sound like. There is a really great remix by Soulwax on the CD-Single/Vinyl, that is not so thin in sound...

LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION - Tell me what it's worth

third single from Ex-Testicicles-member on Domino Records. folky, melancholic sunshine-pop from London. His first two singles in 2007 were amazing, and this song is already one of my highlights of 2008. The album "Falling of the Lavender bridge" is coming in january. I can't wait!

TODD RUNDGREN - Hello It's me

This is one of my all time favorite songs: "Hello it's me" from fantastic weirdo TODD RUNDGREN. The psychedelic side of Softrock! Some of you might have heard this beautiful ballad before in the soundtrack of Sophia Coppola's 1999 movie "VIRGIN SUICIDES". This performance is part of a 1973 TV show called "Midnight special", presented by the Four Tops... or is it The Temptations, or The Drifters...ahhh whatever. The song creeps even deeper into your soul, when you watch the incredible face of Todd Rundgren playing piano...and his blue coloured hair!, his blue painted fingers!, his expressive costume! and his painted butterfly eyebrows! (besides his unforgettable teeth...). Somebody very wise once said (no it wasn't GOD): you never get to heaven without calling at least one TODD RUNDGREN album your own! Right. I think by now you get the idea.

BELARUSIAN TOURISM MOVIE with TODD TERJE's song GLITTERTIND as soundtrack

This is weird but really nice stuff. Someone (maybe the Belarusian tourist office...probably not) chose the subtle, soft balearic disco sounds of Norwegian production genius TODD TERJE (friend of Lindstrom, Prins Thomas) as the soundtrack to a beautiful movie about the attractions of Belarus. Hard to say in which decade this film was made. Looks like the seventies but it could be anything up to the nineties, really. But don't get me wrong. This works really well. Really like the smooth "Glittertind" from Todd Terje for some time now and this looks like the perfect video (big forests, strange food, weird costumes, smiling poeple, impressing highways...) for it. take an unexpected nice trip!

THE LITTLE ONES - Ordinary song

Come and catch some ray of sunshine, straight from California. This is perfect sunshine-pop with some roots in 60s vocal pop bands like the Beach Boys, The Association with a touch of Flaming Lips. Pure Sugar! Each of their songs is a little diamond. Their Mini Album "Sing Song" went straight into my top ten pop albums of 2007. The Little Ones - catch them before they turn into The Big Ones...!

THE BIRD AND THE BEE - Fucking boyfriend (dj supermarkt shredmix)

berlin battery exclusive: i did this shredmix (something between a remix, an edit, a mashup or something else...) for great UK duo The Bird and the Bee. It's quite an electro/nu-ravebomb, i must say. Tested it to great results... If you like nice pop music in the style of Saint Etienne, Lily Allen, Prefab Sprout or Belle & Sebastian (you better do not listen to my shredix) but you should check out their amazing debut album simply entitled "the bird and the bee". One of my 2007 top ten albums.

JUSTIN'S LOWDOWN - DJ Supermarkt SoftrockDisco Edit (berlinbattery exclusive)

Back by popular demand. Posted this ages ago but the link expired. People keep asking, so here it is once more. Still a berlinbattery exclusive! It's an edit of Boz Scaggs' softrock-disco classic "Lowdown" with a little vocal help from Justin Timberlake & Snoop Dogg. Rupert Holmes once said that the seventies were the last period in music, where a musician could look shit. Well, make up your own mind. Still i can recommend Boz Scaggs' album "Silk degrees" to anyone, who is interested in high class "silk" disco!

PHOENIX KISS (by Tommy Yamaha & Ekki Eletrico)

I was ínvited to deejay in Nürnberg on the legendary wild WILDSTYLE party at Hirsch the weekend before christmas. The night is hosted by our friends Tommy Yamaha (Strike Boys) and Ekki Elétrico (Trio Elétrico) for 11!!! years already and other guests so far were the cream of the advanced party-rave dancefloor: Stereo Mcs, Freestylers, Digitalism, Stanton Warriors, The Glimmer Twins, Jacques Lucont, Le Hammond Inferno, Malente, DJ Koze, Tim Love Lee, Superdiscount, Faze Action, Soul of Man, DJ Friction, Ursula 1000, Fort Knox Five, Adam Freeland, Capoeira Twins, Dub Pistols, The Dirty Beatniks, Silly Walks Movement, Drumattic Twins. Besides their own projects they did some great tracks together. "Phoenix City" was my favorite on Stereo De Luxe. As Le Hammond Inferno we played this upbeat Ska-House-Fun track for ages. Now the two did this great bootie combining Lil Louis' "Frensh Kiss" with their "Phoenix City".... to a stunning effect. Watch people go mad on this one!

TRONIK YOUTH - WE ARE (PUNKS JUMP UP rmx)

Really love this remix of the PUNKS JUMP UP-boys for Tronik Youth. PJU are Joe and David from Sweden and Britain, and they live in London. I first played PJU's music, when they started their own record label CASSETTE RECORDS with one of their own songs "Be You". (You should check out all 4 releases on CASSETTE Rec, because every 12 Inch is top notch) Their next single "Dance to our disco" on Kitsune did not do it for me, because it sounded a bit too much like The Rapture, but recently they did some really great remixes and this one for me is the height of the tree. It's electro-funk at it's best, groovy electro music you can shake your ass too.

DISCO BEARD BEARDISM LP

This is a very special x-mas present (well...kind of for x-mas 2008..already now) from our friends at Discopia. They are obviously mad or still drunk from new years eve because they are giving away an entire album FOR FREE! Featuring amazing re-edits they did of Disco, Post-Disco, Dance and Psychedelic tunes from Giorgio Moroder, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Annie, Musique, JJ Cale, LCD Soundsystem, Claudio Simonetti, Earlene Bentley, Stereolab and more.

Alternatley you can also download the album from www.littlerockrecords.com or
from www.myspace.com/discobeard - and feel free to pass this link on to
anyone you know might like it, 'tis the season for sharing and all that.
Hope you like it!

Have a very happy 2008 everybody!!!
